WHY THE KENWOOD HOUSE IS A LONDON HIDDEN GEM
If you’re looking for a serene, perfectly British hideaway not far from the bustling center of London, Kenwood House is a must-visit. It has all of the things I love most about English properties: beautiful gardens, vast green space, tree-covered pathways, cobblestone walkways, a stunning art collection, and history-filled rooms. Kenwood House is nestled in the quiet neighborhood of Hampstead Heath, just a few miles from the center of the city. It’s a picturesque 18th-century mansion that holds historic furniture, books, and art. Originally built in the 17th century, it was later transformed by architect Robert Adam in the 1760s, showcasing classical elegance and intricate interiors. It feels like stepping back in time (and perhaps into a Jane Austen novel). The house is home to an impressive collection of paintings, featuring works by renowned artists (Rembrandt, Turner, and Gainsborough).
the house
The interiors are extraordinary, and very well kept. You can spend as much time as you’d like wandering around the various rooms, and the Kenwood House staffs experts on the property, its history, and its art. They are more than willing to answer any questions as you make your way through.
THE GARDENS
Probably my favorite thing about the Kenwood House, the gardens are a delightful reprieve from the crowded London streets. I visited on a rainy day which made for the most magical wander around the blooms and vines.
