ST. GALLEN, SWITZERLAND

Only a quick train ride from Zurich Airport, St. Gallen is a fairly easy destination that offers small-town, charming Swiss vibes. Some highlights are the Abbey of St. Gallen (including the library), a UNESCO World Heritage site, the University of St. Gallen, and the renowned St. Gallen Textile Museum. We spent about two hours wandering around and exploring the Abbey Library. A brief history about the library:

The library was founded by Saint Othmar, founder of the Abbey of St. Gall. During a fire in 937, the Abbey was destroyed, but the library remained intact. The library hall, designed by the architect Peter Thumb in a Rococo style, was constructed between 1758 and 1767.

A half day is plenty of time to get a good feel for St. Gallen, but obviously, if you want to discover all that it has to offer, a few days would be better suited.

If you visit St. Gallen, leave a comment and share what you saw!

Happy travels,
