CHRISTMASTIME IN NEW ENGLAND

It is truly one of the most wonderful times of the year. Spirits are lifted, decor is elevated, and greenery is brought inside for all to love. The first step in preparing for the New England Christmas season is visiting the local cut-your-own tree farm. This is a family tradition - EVERYONE must come with gloves ready to heft the tree over and along the hills of the farm. And yes, we bring our own saw (it’s our exercise for the day).

We search around for the perfect tree: one that is full, fluffy (we’re known to like fat trees), and 6ft tall. When we each find a tree that we think is the one, we argue for a while about who’s is better and why. Then my younger sister throws a fit (even at the prime age of 18) when we don’t pick her tree, and move on to cut down the selected species. After it’s cut, you take it to the bailing station where they tie up the tree. This makes it easier to transport home on the roof of your car.

Once it’s on the car, it’s time to hope and pray that it doesn’t fall off in transport :) and yes, this has happened before.

It’s now home and time to decorate!

Then, once the energy level is restored, and perhaps on another day, we visit a local garden center to stock up on mantel garlands, wreaths, kissing balls, picks for the window box, and more.
