SIGHTSEEING IN BARCELONA, SPAIN

Ahhh, the beautiful Spanish city of Barcelona. I’ve never been to a Spanish speaking country so this was a particularly exciting adventure. Let’s run through places to visit and things to see (in no particular order).

1. WALK ALONG THE BEACH NEAR THE PEIX OLÍMPIC FRANK GEHRY

The Peix Olímpic Frank Gehry was built in 1992 for the Barcelona Olympic Games. It’s hard to miss because it looks like a giant fish. The walk along the ocean is beautiful and there are a few jetties you walk out to. I enjoyed sitting out by the water and enjoying the scenery.

There are some pretty streets near the Olympic Park to enjoy as well.

2. EXPLORE THE TORRES ROMANES (ROMAN TOWERS)

Right next to the Roman Towers is the beautiful Barcelona Cathedral, along with a bunch of other historical landmarks.

3. EXPLORE THE GOTHIC QUARTER

This beautiful section of Barcelona is the oldest part of the city. However, most of the current Gothic Quarter is comprised of buildings from the late 19th and early 20th century.

4. VISIT THE MERCADO DE LA BOQUERIA (BARCELONA MARKET)

There are several markets in Barcelona that are super fun to explore. Whether you’re hungry or not, it’s a great way to get a sense of the colorful Spanish culture. I couldn’t walk by without trying some of the giant chocolate covered strawberries on a stick and fruit smoothies.

5. PARK GÜELL‎

Since this is a major attraction in Barcelona, I’ll be writing a whole blog post devoted to this park design by Gaudi (the architect who designed La Sagrada Familia). Click here to see the full post about PG.

6. LA SAGRADA FAMILIA

Designed by Gaudi, this is arguably one of the most impressive churches in the world. A Roman Catholic Church started in 1882, this work of art has not yet been finished. You are able to go inside the cathedral, but because of time, I just admired it from the outside.

7. WATCH THE SUNSET AT THE BUNKERS DEL CARMEL

One of the most popular hangout spots for the youth of Barcelona is right here. The views from the top of these old bunkers are amazing, especially once the sky starts to turn various shades of orange and pink. Grab a bottle of wine and a bag of chips and enjoy the easy life of the Spaniards.

Barcelona is an amazing city and I’d highly recommend going! There are also several day trips from Barcelona that are great options if you want to get out of the city. I decided to go to Montserrat, a famous monastery on a cliff. Click here to read that post!
