DUMBO, BROOKLYN AND CROSSING THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE | NYC

I’m so excited to share my visit to Dumbo, Brooklyn with you all! This was a place I’ve wanted to visit for a long time, and there are many other neighborhoods in Brooklyn that are still on my list. When my boyfriend and I visited the city for a weekend, we decided to go to Dumbo for breakfast. We took the subway to Dumbo and it was very quiet when we first arrived. Dumbo is a very popular area so be sure to get there early for optimal photo opportunities.

This area is super trendy and much quieter compared to Manhattan. Many of the buildings used to be warehouses or factories and were converted into hip coffee shops, art galleries, performance spaces, and markets. Dumbo has become increasingly touristy over the years as visitors flock to the cobblestone streets of this neighborhood. Also, the cost of living here has skyrocketed. If you’re interested in reading more about how Dumbo has evolved, check out this article from the New York Times.

One of the main reasons people come to Dumbo, other than all the cute shops and restaurants, is the iconic shot of the Manhattan Bridge. Does this look familiar?

You won’t have a shortage of coffee shops in Dumbo. We ate at Butler, a very popular cafe near the water.

Before finding the stairs to the Brooklyn Bridge, we decided to walk around the area a bit. Here’s what we saw!

WALKING ACROSS THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE

Once we followed the crowd to the beginning of the Brooklyn Bridge, we stepped onto the cable-stayed/suspension structure that was opened in 1883. This bridge was the first fixed crossing over the East River. Its total length is 5,989′.

It took us about 30 minutes to cross the bridge, but if you’re going to stop to take photos, it could take up to an hour…especially with the crowds!

Have you been to Dumbo? If you’ve visited Brooklyn before, I’d love to hear where you went and what you did. Leave me a comment below!
