ALP ADVENTURES IN SCHÖNRIED, SWITZERLAND
While staying in Gstaad, we drove 15 minutes to a town called Schönried. From here, we parked at the base of the Luftseilbahn und Skilifte Schönried, a lift that takes you to the Rellerligrat (top lift station). The ride up is very scenic, as you get to look out over Schönried, and Gstaad further off in the distance. The mountains to the southwest of Schönried are known as Les Diablerets, deriving from the french ‘le Diable’, the devil. The strain of mountains are impressive and definitly better the higher up you go! At the top, there is a lift station, a mountain resturant, a mountain coaster, playground, and lots of bikes. The bikes were our mode of transportation on our way down the mountain. The bikes were took were monster trotti bikes, which look like giant scooters with two thick tires. You can buy tickets for the bikes at the base lift. There are trails all the way down the mountain, which are biking/walking/running friendly. The mountain coaster was a huge hit with the kids…and the adults…And the Coupe Denmark (or glorified ice cream sundae) was the main hit at the mountain restaurant. Here are some pictures from the day!
