A HALF DAY IN ZURICH, SWITZERLAND

We didn’t have much time in Zurich, but it’s a pretty easy city to navigate within and see in a short period of time.

Zurich has a rich history that dates back to Roman times when it was known as a small customs port on the river. The city developed steadily throughout the Middle Ages, becoming a center for trade and commerce. It continues today as a global financial hub, renowned for its banking and finance sectors.

It’s clear as you walk around that you’re in a wealthy Swiss city. The architecture is grand, the streets are clean, and the views of the water is stunning.

Popular things to do:

  • Take a scenic boat ride on Lake Zurich

  • Explore the historic Old Town (Altstadt) (medieval architecture)

  • Visit the Swiss National Museum to learn about the country's cultural history

  • Visit Uetliberg Mountain, accessible by a short hike or train ride

  • Visit the Kunsthaus Zurich (for art lovers)

  • Check out the famous churches, Grossmünster and Fraumünster

  • Attend events or performances at the Zurich Opera House

What we did:

  • Shopped on Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world's most exclusive shopping streets

  • Ate at the famous Restaurant Zeughauskeller.

    • “Rustic Swiss dishes & draft beers in a 15th-century building, with oak beams & historic artifacts. Our house was built in 1487 - before Columbus discovered America. The name "Armory" means that weapons and military equipment were stored and repaired here, because unfortunately the Swiss experienced more years of war than peace in the Middle Ages. Legend even says that the crossbow of our national hero William Tell was exhibited here.”

If you go to Zurich, leave a comment about your favorite thing you did or saw.

Happy travels,
