VISITING AORAKI/MOUNT COOK NATIONAL PARK
Mt. Aoraki (or Mount Cook) is a must-see on your trip to New Zealand. The weather is intermittent, so be sure to check the forecast. There are also few choices when it comes to accommodations if you’re staying in Mt. Cook Village (which I recommend). Staying there allows you to eat at the buffet at the Mt. Cook Lodge (the view makes it worth it if it’s a clear day) and you’ll beat the crowds on any morning hikes. There are options in terms of walks/hikes: different lengths and routes are available for different levels of ability/interest. The Alps to Ocean bike route also starts here (which I’ve done). Below is a gallery of photos from my last two trips to Mt. Cook Village. Lastly, be sure to pack warm clothing and a rain coat. It can be very cold at night and in the morning… and WINDY!
