MY FAVORITE SPOTS IN QUEENSTOWN, NZ (SO FAR)

It’s hard to argue that Queenstown isn’t one of the best places in New Zealand. It’s a popular destination because of the airport, proximity to Fjordland National Park, along with some of the Great Walks. Oh, and it’s known as the adventure capital of the world so..it draws a crowd. The town itself is almost Swiss-like: cobblestown streets, a large lake (Lake Wakitipu), luxury shops, and mountain views that you’ll remember forever. What makes it distinctly Kiwi is the mix-in of hostels, affordable accommodations, pubs, and lots of backpackers looking for a break from the dirt. The place is special, and one that I hope to continue returning to throughout my life.

Now for some of my favorite spots in town. Disclaimer: this is a forever-evolving list.

  1. Bespoke Kitchen

Before you head off on your mountain/river/bunjee adventure (ok maybe not before the bungee), you can get your coffee and artisan pancake fix here. It’s a hip cafe with cool vibes, grab-and-go snacks/baked goods/sandwiches, and a sit down menu. I highly recommend the pancakes. :)

2. Queenstown Gardens

I was so excited to come back to this stunning park that I went straight for a run after landing in town. It’s filled with beautiful rose gardens, pretty streams, frisbee golf, and a dirt walking track with *the best views*. I’m gushing, I know. But if you go, you’ll understand!

3. Mrs. Ferg

The adjacent burger restaurant is world famous, and you’ll definitely need to wait in a line. However, next door is a gem of a sugary haven with, usually, a shorter line. This gelato shop is top tier, and for all you lactose intolerant peeps, they have some seriously good sorbet. Any of the fruit flavors are delicious. I’m known to mix in some tropical fruit flavor with the coconut sorbet. It’s a good time.

4. Mackenzie Coffee Co.

Just good coffee, that’s all I got. I do respect the plaid branding.

5. Onsen Hot Pools

Not really in town, about a 15 minute drive. The perfect way to relax and soak after a long hike or a cramped plane ride. :) Any place that offers free Whittakers as a snack gets an A+ in my book. Book your time in advance.

6. Skyline Queenstown

If you don’t want to hike to see views of The Remarkables and Queenstown, the Skyline is a great option (although very popular with other tourists). Going for sunset is pretty neat.

If you’ve been to Queenstown, comment your favorite spot!

Happy travels,

K
